CCDP - Certified Co-Occurring Disorders Professional

Overview of Requirements

Experience - 4000 hours of co-occurring disorder - COD (substance use & mental health) specific work experience and 2000 hours of counseling work experience within the last ten years; 6000 hours total. Experience must be at a counseling program licensed by the State of Michigan, or equivalent. The experience must be in the IC&RC/CCDP Performance Domains. No volunteer work will be accepted.

Education ??? A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in behavioral science with a clinical application from an institution accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.

200 total contact hours required 140 hours must be COD specific education that includes a focus on both substance abuse and mental disorders and considers the interactive relationship between these disorders. At least 30 hours specific to substance use disorders, 30 hours specific to mental health and six (6) hours (face to face) specific to counseling/professional practice ethics.

Education is defined as formal classroom education (workshops, seminars, institutes, in-services, and college/university courses) and home study courses (internet, correspondence, teleconference). Education must be specific to the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the tasks within each IC&RC/CCDP Performance Domains. All education must be MCBAP approved or from accepted sources, and documented. Applicants are responsible for securing and submitting documentation of attendance, the number of contact hours, dates, and a content description.

Supervised Practical Training - 200 hours of direct supervision, with at least twenty (20) hours in each of the IC&RC/CCDP Performance Domains.

Supervised Training (Supervised Experience) is defined as a formal, systematic process that focuses on skill development and integration of knowledge. This training must take place in a setting where COD counseling is being provided. This training must occur as part of eligible work experience and may be completed under more than one supervisor.

Testing ??? IC&RC Written Co-Occurring Disorders Professional Examination.

Applicants are required to pass the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium/Co-Occurring Disorders Professional (IC&RC/COD) written examination as part of their CCDP requirement. There are no prerequisites to take the exam. A passing score is based upon the total score. If you fail the exam, you must retake the entire exam.

Code of Ethics - Sign and adhere to the current MCBAP CCDP Code of Ethical Standards.

Residency - Must live or work within the State of Michigan at least fifty-one (51%) percent of the time.

Fee - Submit $150.00 non-refundable two-year certification fee.

Renewal ??? Forty- (40) hours of MCBAP approved continuing education training specific to COD is required for a two (2) year certification and twenty- (20) hours of MCBAP approved continuing education training specific to COD is required for a one (1) year certification. Time period is since the beginning of your previous certification period.

Renewal fee - $135 two (2) year renewal $85 one (1) year renewal (subject to change)

NOTE: there is a reduced $25 renewal fee for each additional credential for those individuals who hold more than one MCBAP certification.
